Any who, without further ado, on to my favorite writing tool!
My one writing tool is probably one of the things that I deem most important when it comes to writing and it has probably been the one thing (tool wise) that has helped me the most! and that is. . .
~Character Sheets~
Now, don’t just google this unless you want to give yourself a headache with the bazillion and three options that exist. Or, you could google it like I did, pick one that looks the most promising and just answer the questions that make the most sense. Character sheets are a lovely tool that allow you to explore your character in depth and make them way better than you could have ever thought. Making your characters human is so important, and this tool allows you to do that very easily, just by filling in some blanks and answering some questions. Your characters will be amazing if you just use this simple tool. The character sheet gives you questions such as:
What is their flaw?
What is their strength?
What do they put their trust in?
What do they fear the most?
What is their soapbox?
Etc. etc.
These questions along with some others make great character depth builders. Nobody likes a shallow character who is perfect, or someone who they just don’t get to know. So when you take the time to get to know your characters better, your readers will thank you so much!
I have something special for you! Here is a free download of MY character sheet. The one I use for pretty much every characters in my books. After much research and printing up more different character sheets than I care to count, I compiled my favorite questions and the ones I use the most often onto one sheet. I hope it helps!

Thanks for sharing your favorite writing tool, Victoria. I tried clicking on the link to see your character sheets but it would t work. I know some writers use an electric typewriter sort of thing to write their stories. What do you use to write yours?
Love Ashley

Hi Ashley! I’ll send you a copy of the character sheet! Sorry the link didn’t work for you. I actually write everything by hand first in notebooks. Then, once it is finished, I type it into the computer. I have never had the electronic typewriter thing, but they sound cool! I actually have a vintage typewriter, but it isn’t that easy to is for speed writing. Lol!
I like your character sheet, Victoria! *saves* I’ve seen a lot of different versions too, but haven’t bothered with them that much because A) I tend to dump character information in a (sort of) organized document of my own as the information comes to me and B) Many of the lists out there have a few too many questions and sometimes those questions get on the silly side, or at least, extremely genre-specific. I think you’ve done a good job of narrowing your questions down to things that would actually be helpful to know no matter what genre is being written. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
You are welcome EFB! I am glad you found it helpful! I know right? That is why I decided to make my own. Like, I really don’t care what my characters horoscope is! Lol! The only thing that I generally add to my character sheet fo myself is I write a readers digest version of a backstory. That is also really helpful in determining a characters motivation and quirks.
Thanks for commenting! Blessings!
Great idea to take what you liked of some character sheets and put them into your own. If I used them I would deffinatly download yours as it doesn’t look too overwhelming. 🙂
Aww! Thanks so much Bekah! That is so awesome! *Sighs with happiness* I love character sheets. I hope you enjoy my blog henceforth! Thanks for commenting. Blessings!
